Historical Tiles Project

The Historical Tiles Project is an ambitious initiative aimed at retracing and visually mapping the entirety of the Dutch colonial footprint. This major research-based endeavor, developed in stages, involves collecting stories from around the globe to inform the creation of the tiles. The project will culminate in the production of 10,000 two-dimensional and three-dimensional ceramic historical tiles.

Below are images from the project's first phase, which focused on research and the initial stages of pre-production during my residency at EKWC. Given the project's expansive scope, it has been divided into multiple phases, with the second phase scheduled to take place starting in October 2024 to December 2030 with the support of EKWC. This phase will involve the development of partnerships, collaborations, the establishment of a production team, contributers and the preparation and pre-production of the 10,000 tiles .
